In begin sixties, the village of Doel counted more than 1.500 inhabitants. Since the implantation of a Nuclear power plant the villagers started to leave their home. The exodus and expropriation accelerated when the Port of Antwerp begins his expansion in 1999.
Now, there are about 30 residents in this "ghost" town. The economic crisis stop the growth the port and gave them one last respite.
